The "Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Action Group", also known as the "BOCC Watch", was formed in December 2004. The creation of this action group came out of the events of the 2004 elections, during which there were heard many things about the Elbert County Commissioners and the County Government, while there was at the same time no person or group which was actively witness to the Board of County Commissioners meetings.

The purpose of the BOCC Action Group is:

  1. To witness, to watch and listen, at the Elbert County BOCC meetings.
  2. To report any items of interest or significance to the citizens of Elbert County, Colorado. This report is to be made on the Energize Elbert Discussion Board.
  3. To encourage and support the citizens of Elbert County in accomplishing this action.

Anyone interested in joining the BOCC Action Group can do so by contacting
Karen ( ksuchan@mindspring.com ) or Jerry ( gesuchan@earthlink.net ) / Energize Elbert / 303-648-3410, or by doing so at a Energize Elbert meeting.

The Elbert County Board of County Commissioners meets:

Every Wednesday
at 9 AM
in the BOCC Meeting Room
Elbert County Court House
215 Comanche Street, Kiowa

The BOCC meeting usually convenes at 9:00 AM and has a break from 11:30 AM to 1:PM for lunch, and then reconveins at 1:00 PM for the afternoon session. The meeting then ends after all county business has been addressed, so the ending time varies with each meeting. It is recommended that anyone wanting to watch the BOCC consult the agenda before going to the meeting because all of these times can vary. People wanting to speak to the BOCC are usually able to do so at the end of the afternoon session, and at other times at the discretion of the BOCC. If  you want to make a presentation or otherwise require a substantial time with the Commissioners it is advisable to ask to be put on the agenda.

You can read more about each upcoming BOCC meeting at the Upcoming Commissioner Meetings web page. The BOCC agenda is available the day before the BOCC meeting through links on the Upcoming Commissioner Meetings web page. Sometimes the Agenda is not available. The minutes for each BOCC meeting are available at the Past Commissioner Meetings Minutes web page by following the link for the meeting of interest. The minutes for any given meeting are available after they have been approved, usually at the next BOCC meeting. Both the agenda and minutes must be downloaded as a Microsoft Word document to be read.

The BOCC Action Group reports any items of interest or significance to the citizens of Elbert County which are observed at the BOCC meeting on the Energize Elbert Discussion Board and at the Energize Elbert monthly meetings

The Elbert County Commissioners are elected by the citizens of Elbert County. As such they are the employees of the citizens, appropriately selected to carry on and oversee the business and activities of the county. It is the duty of every American Citizen to monitor the activities of Our Government, and to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. There is no other way to ensure our government will do what it is elected to do. There is no other way to ensure our freedom.

The action of watching our elected officials is too important to be left to nobody. Nobody would let their employees be unsupervised as is often done with our public office holders.
