You can see that he hollows the distal end of the didj quite nicely, resembling the look of the finer modern style bells.
The painting on this didj was commissioned with the directions - "paint something that reminds you of me". He chose the theme which I'm often heard spouting - The compass of the Tao will lead you on the path to Enlightenment. This picture shows his interpretation of the Compass of the Tao with a Yin/Yang symbol surrounded by arrows in the four basic directions.

This picture depicts the path leading to the symbol for enlightenment.
The close-up view of the proximal end shows Ben's attention to playable bareback mouthpieces. The sizes are usually a comfortable 1.25 to 1.5 inch diameter.
