Another couple weeks of crap at work. We had this big meeting at Gettysview country club with our group to discuss workload and going forward. How did it come to this you ask? Since about April we've all noticed a very substantional increase in workload. We were also in the midst of getting rid of somebody so there have been two positions open for three plus months, not in the group I'm in but it affects my group just the same. Plus we have some major projects going on. So basically we've been Begging for additional resources and nobody seems to believe the workload we have to do which brings us to our what seems to be stationary consultants, Transition Partners. Mind you we did this whole process last year when we all got new titles and roles. Anyway, we basically spent all day updating Project reports with the PMO which he should have done himself and listing out all the work have done and have to do. We pretty much feel it was a waste of our time. We fucking know what we have to do and nobody in upper management believes us or trusts us. I don't know? Too much politics for me. Then on friday they announced yet another re-alignment in our group that will shift me back under my first boss which I pretty much work for anyway. That won't happen till after our big e-mail migration project is complete. I'm just going with the flow, riding the waves, following the yellow brick road, etc. We have a really great team but unfortunatley our road block is our VP, former consultant, he's a damn idiot. Always referring to a company he used to work for that was probably about 4-5 times larger than we are and we are always hearing "Back at so and so, we did it this way" Well that way don't fucking work in our environment. Oh well, enough of that.
This week I get to take smooze trip to chicago and get to go ON THE FIELD at Wrigley and watch my cubbies whoop up on the Astros. Our Purchasing VP has invited me and one of my bosses to join as I'm a big cubs fans and my boss is a houston fan. We've talked CDW into "sponsoring" our trip since we buy a shit ton from them. We have to sit througha tour of their facilities though. Have you been watching the Olympics? I have. I love the Olympics. Some great competition so far. Swimming and Gymnastics has been great. A couple miscues on the Women's Gymnastics teams cost them the gold but they held their heads high with a silver medal. Swimmers Inge De Bruijn, Amanda Beard, Natalie Coughlin... Mmmm Wrap them around me and drive it home baby. Women's Beach Volleyball has been fantastic. Kerri Walsh's long legs and tight body..... D-amn. Lot's more to come. USA is ahead in the medal count with a total of 50, 20 of them GOLD with china a close 2nd with 44 medals on 21 gold. The next closest has a total of 35 medals. Pretty significant woman's marathon race today. USA has not been known for marathons racers but today America prevailed with a bronze medal by Deena Kastor who at one time was 18th place and came all the way back to 3rd. Some good events coming in the next few weeks here in K-town. Market Square start Movies at Market Square And then on September 9th start the Fall edition of Sundown in the City named Autumn on Market Square. Sept 9th through october 24th I believe. I haven't found a schedule of bands yet anywhere though but I do know that Robinella and the CC String band opens up the free concert series. Greekfest is next weekend and this year it's at the Worlds fair site. It's only friday and saturday. I really wish something like this would last a week or at least the entire weekend? I just don't get southern festivals sometimes? Then of course there is BOOMSDAY!! Southeast's Largest Fireworks Display. This year it's on September 4th, a saturday as the First Vol Football game has been moved to Sunday September 5th, yes Vol football on sunday? A little controversy this year with Boomsday as the sponsors want to add beer sales but the knoxville beer board has said NO as boomsday is considered a family event. I'm curious on what Sundown in the city, Saturday night on the town and other knoxville events are considered as those mentioned offer beer sales. I can't blame the sponsors as this one day event needs to meet certain financial requirements. They way they had it planned out was that beer would be sold Only on volunteer landing which is kinda out of the way from the main festivities. I have a feeling that this will be the last time Star 102.1 sponsor's the event, it's difficult to make money on one day events and they chip in a huge chunk of dough. They even offered to provide additional security but knoxville police were the strongest opponents to this and they got there way. I see both sides of it but I really don't think it would have cause a major problem. Oh well, back to the Olympics. Cya's later.
