Making Meaning from Metaphor

creation3.jpg

Places please, top of the show! In the masterworks project you take the stage!

Enter the world of the play through the mind of the playwright, explore great characters in great plays

“What were they thinking?!” students often wonder! Discover what drives a play by living the roles of great characters in masterworks through in class page to stage projects.

Working in partnership with teachers, we develop a lesson plan that is specific to your classroom needs. Whether focusing on one masterwork or doing a survey to compare and contrast several, we create a project that brings literacy to light.

Working with our MET teaching artists, students explore plot, character, metaphor and symbols and study the world of each masterwork to break the code of the play, put scenes on their feet and illumine deeper levels of meaning to improve understanding and inspire excitement.

Bringing the page to the stage creates a dramatic impact for student learning, literacy and comprehension.

MET Renaissance projects are custom designed for each participating class and focus on masterworks, poetry, creative writing, playwrighting and comparative analysis within a 5 session workshop that results in improved student achievement and a culminating performance on our final day.

Want to take the Masterworks Project one step farther to showcase your students' creativity?   Let us work in partnership with you to help students synthesize their learning through ADAPTATION. In this format, students examine an original work, then use it as a basis for their creative expression, using theatre and playwrighting skills to create original treatments and scenes that demonstrate their understanding of plot, character, devices and symbols used in the original. The ADAPTATION project culminates in staged readings of newly created works.
