RECENT NEWS

May 03, 2008:

Nova Sgr 2008 = V5579 Sgr

15 days after discovery announcements and spectra are taken, the GCVS finally assigns a variable star designation to Nova Sgr 2008.

April 25,  2008:

Nova Sgr 2008

K. Mishiyama & F. Kabashima (Japan) report a 'possible' Nova of magnitude 8.4 in Sgr detected on two 30-second unfiltered CCD images on Apr 18.784.  A spectrum was obtained by Nemeth, Vennes & Kawka with the 0.8-m telescope at FIT on Apr 19, and showed the Nova to be in it's pre-maximum phase.  The Nova continued to brighten to magnitude 6.5 by Apr 23.09 (Amorin).
