June 21, Tuesday : The 155th, which had been ordered to Norfolk, is still at City Point. There is a serious shortage of boats to transport the troops up and down the James River. Transportation for only half the regiment has yet been found. While waiting for a ride, the 155th and other troops stationed at City Point will be treated to an opportunity to see "Old Abe" himself. The President arrives today on his personal steamer to meet with General Grant and his officers. Later in the day, Lincoln and Grant will tour the battle lines at Petersburg on horseback. Fighting will break out near the village of White House, north of the James.
June 22, Wednesday : Sergeant T.J. Harlor, Company H, 155th is reduced in rank to Private.
In the previous seven weeks, the Army of the Potomac and its foe, the Army of Northern Virginia, have suffered combined casualties amounting to 60% of their original number. The bloodt campaigns of this critical period of the war will continue, exacting a horrible toll from the participants.
