I have two jobs now, and the most interesting one is the writing I do at home. I have multiple ideas and projects on various burners including short (?) stories, fairy tales that are growing, poetry at odd times, and a cookbook. A response to an article about women’s college basketball is out the door at last, and I look forward to seeing that. Sometimes I have the energy to pursue rejection, and some days I just write in practice of those days. I am definitely enjoying myself and am committed to making this a success. As always, encouragement is ever welcome.
The struggle to start writing every day is helped by time cards and accountability to others. To continue a trend from Stanford, I tend to do better work in the sunshine and so I’m looking forward to warmer days. And some days I come home raring to get to work and full of energy and a spur is unnecessary. Although I am home most afternoons, I really should be unavailable to my friends in most cases. However, if you want to join me at a library or café and not expect me to talk too much, I’m all over it.
I’m still thrilled to be married to C and had a fabulous time at our wedding. Pictures were supposed to crop up on our joint page but that hasn’t happened yet. We’ll work on that. Babies are going to wait a few years yet, and grad school is still in the plans in some vague way. Meanwhile we hope to buy a house in the nearer future as money and the desire for a pet accumulates.
The famn damily is well. My niece and nephew continue to charm and captivate. J, 3, is learning all kinds of things at pre-school and I got a copy of A’s kindergarten picture recently; wow does she look grown up! She also received 100% on a spelling test recently featuring words like "mom" and "you" and "Keystone." My brother is thinking about changing his business focus from one client to other possibilities. M continues to help plan the house they will be building on the Mica property. Mom survived a roll-over without injury to herself and prepares to take on the role of master teacher to a student teacher at her work. Dad continues to enjoy his family counseling and is gearing up for another garden season.
So far this year has been busy hosting friends in our house and planning trips for graduations and weddings. The days lengthen and the garden calls. Daffodils have burst forth and we are working the soil for vegetables. Now that we have the facilities to store them in our new freezer, I am hoping for bumper crops.
I’m thrilled that Seattle has been picked as a site for the ABL, the new women’s professional basketball league to start in 1996. Season tickets here I come. I am also happy that Seattle is hosting the women’s west regionals this year. I look forward to seeing Stanford off to the Final Four. Go Cardinal!
Wishing you the brightest of springs! Drop me a line by e-mail or snail mail.
Cheers!
