| January 16, 1923 - June 16, 2004 |
Richie Zack began his Country Music career when his brother, Eddie, formed the Dude Ranchers in 1939.
Eddie and Richie were joined by their sisters, Babs and Maril. Richie Zack, known as "Cousin" Richie, also recorded
under the name "Dick Richards". The Dude Ranchers became the Hayloft Jamboree in 1952 while appearing on the WCOP Hayloft
Jamboree in Boston MA. They were the first country music act to play at the Boston Symphony Hall. During this
same period, they were regulars on the NBC radio network, with a show heard every Saturday on 128 stations coast to coast.
The Hayloft Jamboree had recordings on the Decca, Columbia and Crosstown labels. In a career that lasted 65 years,
Richie and the Hayloft Jamboree had two television shows, the first on WJAR and the second in 1965 on WPRO. At various
times, Eddie and Richie hosted radio programs on WRIB, WGNG, WKRI, WHIM AND WJJF. They performed with just about every
major country act during their career, including Eddie Arnold, Roy Acuff, Carl Smith, Lefty Frizzell, Webb Pierce, Kitty Wells
and Johnny Wright, Johnny and June Carter Cash and George Jones, to name just a few. Following his brother Eddie's death
in 2002, Richie became the leader of the Hayloft Jamboree. They continued to make regular appearances and played for
a thankful and loyal crowd every Saturday night in East Greenwich RI. Richie Zack was inducted into the Rhode Island
Country Music Hall of Fame in 1978. A while ago, someone asked Phil why he ends every Country Stew program with a gospel
song by "Cousin" Richie. His answer was simple: Respect
