Pastor's Corner:
Since this past fall, it has been my pleasure to get to know and work with Alan Montgomery.  When I first met Alan it was here at the church, meeting with him after he had responded to our request to the School of the Arts to inform their students of our accompanist position.  As most of you, I was immediately impressed with his skills as a musician, especially after I found out how old he is.  Or should I more accurately say how young he is.  Over the past several months I have come to know this young man a bit better and discovered him to be quite a curious blend of uncommon patience and maturity, youthful innocence and adaptability, and the presence of dedication and work ethic that all serve to enhance such a wonderful God given ability.  As Alan prepares to embark onto the next leg of the exciting journey that lies before, I hope and pray that he will continue to develop and share these gifts through the body of Christ and allow God to continue to work through him.  I also hope that you will join with me in expressing our thanks for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful journey.  And to Alan, we say thank you for your service and  contributions to our ministry here at Hebron United Church of Christ and know that whatever continent that God may lead you to, that we will continue to offer our love and prayers.      Pastor Dave

The monthly Women's Fellowship meeting will be held in the fellowship hall on Thursday, April 12th at 7 pm. The lesson will be presented by Ida Carter, entitled "Greatly Honored Are the Pure in Heart" based on the sixth beatitude.  A quote from the program states: "Hearts are described as pure very rarely, and there is almost no instruction attached to any of the descriptions". Does the Bible give us much help?  All of the women are invited to attend and we hope to see you there!

Disciples' Fellowship

The Disciples' Fellowship and Whispers of Hope will host an Easter party for the residents of Landmark on Tuesday, April 10th at 6 pm.  Everyone is invited to attend and anyone who would be interested in helping with refreshments should contact the pastor. Support for Nazareth Children's Home

The Women's Fellowship is collecting items to be donated to the yard sale at Nazareth Children's Home in early June.  If you have items to offer to this worthy cause please bring them to the church prior to May 28th so they may be taken to Salisbury.  In addition, the Women's Fellowship is selling tickets for the drawing to be held there. Tickets are $5 and prizes include a new Honda Civic and a flat screen TV. Tickets may be purchased from members of the Women's Fellowship.
This active group is also planning a birthday party for everyone in the church who is planning on having a birthday this year.  This celebration will be on Sunday, May 20th.  Hope to see you there!

Pastor's Corner

I invite everyone to make as full a commitment as they are able in fully participating in the services and events planned for Easter season. Our choir's musical program on Palm Sunday (April 1); the District Service at Second UCC Lexington at 7 pm that evening; our Maundy Thursday Service and the observance of the Last Supper as well as the stripping of the altar; the Sunrise service Easter morning, followed by the warm fellowship of our annual breakfast; the Sacrament of Holy Communion at our 10:45 service and concluding with a musical program by Whispers on Sunday, April 15th.  All together, these services and events can be a very powerful and moving experience. Pastor's Corner

By reading through the annual reports in the directory, it becomes quite apparent that there are so many opportunities available through the various ministries here at Hebron.  Ministries that through personal experience I can share; enhance and enlighten us and our faith.  Understanding that we are the living body of Christ and the hands through which God continues to accomplish things here on earth.  It is to that mission and purpose that I call on you, each of you, to search your hearts and your calendars, finding and making the time to participate in God's work.  So many opportunities already exist in the Evangelism Committee, Women's Fellowship, Disciples' Fellowship, Memorial Committee, Cemetery Committee, Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Choir, Board of Christian Education and others.  In addition, there is a vast amount of creative ideas and plausible suggestions that exist right here within our own church family.  I encourage each of you also to accept the challenge of seeking through our minds, receiving and trust in our hearts and applying the gifts of God to our lives and community through the works of our bodies and as the body of Christ.  Bring your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions of how we as a congregation might better serve God and community.  All of us are the eyes and ears that can see the need and hear the cries, and it will take all of us together, to be the working hands of God to meet those needs and respond to those cries.                 Pastor Dave

The Lord’s Days in February, 2012 (10:45 a.m.)

Women's Fellowship

The Women's Fellowship will meet on Thursday, February 9th, at 7 pm. This month's meeting will include a devotional led by Betty Lyons and a "Workday for Gifts" in preparation for the delivery of Valentine gift bags to some physically challenged  individuals.  All the women of the church are invited to come and join in the program and activities.

Come, Share, and Learn!

Every Sunday morning, at 9:45 a.m., the "Willing Workers" Sunday School Class comes together for a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing in the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of the Word of God.  Using the "Present Word" series as a starting point, the class, led by Betty Lyons and others, learns and grows through discussion.  Everyone is invited to come and be a part of this ongoing journey of faith.

Annual Congregational Meeting

This year, the annual meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 19th following the morning worship service.  As is customary, Sunday the 26th will serve as a "back up" date in case of inclement weather.  Please plan on staying as we gather to share in a meal, distribute the new directories, and provide the opportunity for a meaningful discussion of our ministry here at Hebron UCC.  This is an excellent chance for the various committees and auxillaries to present a brief ovrview of their respective ministries with the congregation and all are encouraged to do so.   The annual meeting is the only time of the year that we gather officially as a congregation without a predetermined agenda and therefore serves as an open forum for the sharing of ideas and suggestions.  We hope to see and share with everyone there.

<>Pastor's Corner
<>     As we prepare to enter the Lenten season, we are reminded of the many traditions observed during this time of year.  One of which is utilizing this time for introspection and self-evaluation.  As individuals that can have a plethora of interpretations and application, but as a congregation it calls us to do so in reference to our common ministry and mission.  In doing so, we cannot overlook the ever-present part of our mission to spread the good news and invite others to become part of the living body of Christ.  To that end, I ask that each of us commit to setting the goal of indentifying and engaging another to share our faith with and to invite them to become a part of our ministry and mission here at Hebron.  This is one of the greatest challenges facing all congregations and requires the efforts of everyone to meet and overcome.         Pastor Dave

You are invited to come and join in our Sunday Evening Bible Study.  It meets most Sundays for refreshments and fellowship at 6 pm, with the Bible study beginning at 6:30.  Currently we are approaching the Bible from a who's who perspective.  Prior to Christmas we had worked our way through Moses and now look to move into Joshua and Judges.  We hope you will come and join with us.

Pastor's Corner

As we prepare to journey ahead into a new year, I have paused to consider our overall ministry in an attempt to access where we are and where we need to be headed.  It is my opinion that we have made great strides over the past few years in the areas of financial stability, community service, and providing events to bring people here. The next step is to focus on changes that will help us to get people involved in our ministry once we get them here.  There is no doubt in my mind that the areas most needing attention are the development of a plan to better let the community know who we are and what we are all about, and our worship service.  To those ends, I will be changing things up a bit and welcome any and all feedback as we try some new ideas.  I pray that God will continue to bless us and guide us all.        Pastor Dave.

A Request from the Consistory

As the Consistory prepares for the annual publication of the directory and congregational meeting in  February, they request your assistance in gathering the necessary information.  From everyone in our church family they need any information that has changed, or needs to be updated, such as addresses, phone numbers, etc.  Especially if you have replacd your home number with a cell phone.  Secondly, if committee chair persons could submit with their annual reports a list of active members and a proposed meeting schedule.  The schedule doesn't need to include exact dates and time, but frequency (monthly, quarterly, bi-annually) and regular meeting times (first Tuesday of the month) should it apply.  It is requested that all information be submitted by January 29th and that it will help in the support and growth of our combined minstry.

Sunday, November 20, 2011

This will be a full and fulfilling day here at Hebron UCC.  We begin with our annual "Ingathering Service" at 10:45 am.  We will come together, bringing our coin boxes and food to decorate the altar celebrating and offering thanks for the bountiful gifts with which we have been blessed.  The gifts will go to the Pastor's Pantry, Crisis Ministries, and the Davidson County Medical Ministry, as we reach out to share all that God has blessed us with.
Later that  afternoon, we shall once again gather to decorate the church for the Advent and Christmas, our annual "Hanging of the Greens".  This has always be a wonderful way to begin the season as we prepare to remember and celebrate God's love for all of us through the gift of Jesus Christ.  Plan on being here for a full day of giving thanks, sharing God's gifts, and preparing for the celebration to come.

Pastor's Corner

Can you believe that we are already at November!   As we approach a very busy time both in and outside the church, I would like to offer to you an invitation.  The upcoming weeks offer a plethora of opportunities to experience the wonders of our faith and engage in the ongoing mission of Jesus Christ.  I invite you to take advantage of this season of opportunity.  First by stepping up and offering your time and talents to any of the current ministries of this congregation.  From singing in the cantata, to joining one of our auxiliaries, to helping extend God's love to those in need.  Second, to see and act upon the opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to the special events and services during the season.  I invite you to immerse yourself in the spirit of the season and truly experience the miracle of the Christmas Season.

Pastor's Corner

There is no other way to state this, but we need your help!  As our ministry continues to grow, and it is growing, there is a corresponding need for more time and effort to support the ministry of this congregation.  I do realize that many of you give a tremendous amount of your time and effort.  I also realize that many have full schedules outside the ministry of this church.  However, there are many ways that you can help that call for less than two hours per month. Whether it be serving on a committee or taking on one of the tasks here at the church, every little bit helps. One thing we all can do to help is invite our family, friends and neighbors to come and be a part of our ministry and our effort to serve God here in the community.  The more people we have, the more time and effort available for God to work through.

Thanks,  Pastor Dave
