LA TAX BREAK FOR FIREFIGHTERS
...from The Times Picayune/NOLA.com on Sunday, July 22, 2007...Volunteer firefighters and individuals who volunteer at public recreation departments around the state will be eligible to take a deduction of $500 from their state income taxes starting this year. Gov. Kathleen Blanco has signed into law House Bill 949 by Rep. Charmaine Marchand, D-New Orleans, granting the tax breaks, which fiscal analysts estimate could cost the state about $225,000 a year. Marchand's bill started out as a more expensive $200-a-year tax credit to public recreation agency volunteers and firefighters but that was changed in the Senate to a $500 tax deduction. Marchand's bill requires recreation departments to certify in writing that an individual volunteers at least 30 hours during a year. The volunteer firefighter must complete 24 hours of annual continuing education classes and must be an active member of the Louisiana State Fireman's Association or listed on the roster of the State Fire Marshal's Volunteer Fireman's Insurance Program.

PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS WANTED
The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles: We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us. We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a "hawk" or a "dove". It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is.  You don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect. Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives: 1) Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities; and 2) Shield the mourning family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors using strictly legal and non-violent means. Visit http://patriotguard.org/Home/tabid/53/Default.aspx for more info or to join.

ZEN & THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE...ONLINE!
An oldie but a goodie written by Robert Persig in the late 60s,
the book recounts a 17-day motorcycle journey of father and son across the United States from Minneapolis to California where "secondary roads are preferred. Paved country roads are the best, state highways are next. Freeways are the worst." This could well be the PERFECT book to keep in your saddlebag for lazy summer road trip reading...part motorcycle trip, part social commentary, part philosophy...it will CERTAINLY leave you with something to think (and talk) about on your pit stops!

ATTENTION VACATION PLANNERS
Hello - my name is Phil Jackson, and my wife and I have owned and operated Iron Horse Stables, a motorcycle resort exclusively for motorcycle riders, since March of 2000. Iron Horse Stables is located 5 miles from Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and 40 miles from Branson, Missouri, in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. We would like to invite you to check out both our website: ironhorsestables.com, and the Arkansas Parks and Tourism website: arkansas.com (look under the outdoors motorcycle section), and let us know if you are interested in receiving information on riding in Arkansas, and Iron Horse Stables. We have a number of Red Knights Chapters that visit with us annually and I am confident they would recommend us highly.
Thanks for your consideration and ride safe!
