James Walter Loyd was the son of John Nelson Loyd and Mary Ella Hughes, and the brother of Ollie Ann Lloyd.  He registered for the World War I draft in phase three of the draft registration process, September 12, 1918, in Liberty.
 
This card indicates that he was 20 years old, and a self-employed farmer living in Dayton.  He was of medium height and build, with blue eyes and red hair.
 
James listed his nearest relative as his mother, Mary Ella (Hughes) Loyd.
