A native Oklahoman who worked 32 years for
SBC, Mary Bailey began her career as an operator and quickly moved to more challenging jobs. Her job titles included Residential
and Business Telephone Installation/Repair and Special Services Installation/Repair (i.e., circuits used for data and special
applications). She eventually became a technician that installed and repaired SWBT’s own computers, printers, and data
terminal equipment. In 1990, she accepted a management job as a Unix System Administrator and worked several years in the
Network Operations Support group. It was during
this time she learned the inner workings of 9-1-1 from direct involvement with the computers and networks
used by SWBT to implement the service.

a five state area (Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas).
During this time she worked on numerous nation-wide teams and committees to develop methods of implementing Phase I and Phase
II wireless 9-1-1 service for SBC. She was also called upon to
make technical presentations to state regulators in 3 states during the recent SBC 9-1-1 Wireless Tariff filings. She retired in December of 2002.
