Utah Trip - p.1

Escalante, Utah (Oct. 6th, 2008) - After a long drive north from Phoenix, Arizona, and many stops for highway maintenance along the way,  I selected the small town of Escalante as a base from which to explore the many canyons and creeks in the area.

This first photo wasn't much to sneeze at, but the afternoon sun was getting lower in the sky, and I was tired from driving, so while waiting for the "follow-me" truck to lead a line of cars up Highway 89, I grabbed my camera and shot this old building from the window.

If these walls could talk they would tell a story of bygone days in this sleepy, dusty, old farm community.  Nestled in a valley, surrounded by sandstone bluffs, weather is extreme. Temperatures range from triple digit highs in the summer to low temperatures in the 20's in October.
