Director's Notes
I was fortunate to see "Bedroom Farce" in London last summer, fortunate to have
Town & Gown's play reading committee read it, fortunate to be on the play reading committee (!) and, of course, fortunate
to be selected to direct this wonderful play.
Despite the title, it's not a farce in the traditional sense; there's no mistaken identity, no cross-dressing, no bottoms
being pinched, and no people running around in their underwear. . . (well, actually, there are people running around in their
underwear but never mind that for now). The play is certainly a comedy though and the playwright, Alan Ayckbourn, invites
us to observe martial discord, male insensitivity, emotional desperation, and communication failures -- and to laugh! Let's
do that!
Thanks to an amazing cast and crew and to my theater buddies -- Speedy Arnold, Jeff Evans, Rick Rose and Allen
Rowell-- for the advice, support and, most importantly, the laughs.
