This section of Biscayne Bay is mainly covered by shallow grass flats. There is a large marina at the park. Most of the scenery is mangrove shoreline, but if you paddle out a little there are majestic views of the Turkey Point power plant and a landfill. There is a nice secluded bay about 1.5 miles from the launch.
Directions: Take the turnpike south to exit 9. Turn right onto SW 112th Ave, then right at the first light (SW 248th St). You need to be on the north side of the canal that parallels 248th St. Go east until you get to the marina, at which point the road turns left. Keep going past the marina entrance to 87th Ave and turn right after you cross a canal (Black Creek). After driving about 1/2 mile there will be some parking spaces on the left with a wooden bridge next to the handicapped spots. Just past the bridge you will see square wooden posts sticking up. This is the unloading and launch area. There is a short mangrove tunnel before you reach the bay, so any fishing rods need to be stored flat.
Put-in/Take-out: sand/gravel. The launch site is a small opening in the mangroves into a small creek between the parking lot and bike/walking path. If you have a good kayak cart you can take the kayak across the bridge to the bike/walk path and walk another 1/3 mile and launch.
Route: Once out in the bay you can go north or south. There are numerous breaks to cross the jetty. To the north of Black Point is an interesting bay with lots of side creeks to explore. From its depth and the satellite images I suspect this was the mouth of a river way back when.
