Convoy Point
Homestead Bayfront Park

This section of Biscayne Bay is mainly covered by shallow grass flats. There is a large marina at the park and the Turkey Point power plant is immediately to the south. Most of the scenery is mangrove shoreline. Fishing for trout, bonefish and barracuda is decent.

Directions: Take the turnpike south to exit 5 or 6. Get onto SW 137th Ave south to SW 328th St, then turn left. You should be north of the speedway. Keep going east until you get into the park. Stay to your left when the road forks and head toward the Convoy Point/ park headquarters/concession area. The canoe/kayak launch is on the north side of the parking lot.

Put-in/Take-out: grass/gravel with some PVC pipe to reduce gauges.

Route: generally head north along the mangroves. It's a long paddle around the jetty to head toward Turkey Point, but not too bad. Remember not to get too close to the power plant entrance unless you have close relatives in the Homeland Security and/or Justice department.

Wildlife: Shorebirds, manatees, crocodiles.
