George English Park

George English Park, located near the end of the Middle River, provides easy access to the Las Olas neighborhood of Ft. Lauderdale, with stately to garish waterfront homes. The adventurous paddler can head north to Wilton Manors from here, west into the New River or even south to Port Everglades. If you want to watch the Winterfest Boat parade from a kayak, this is the place to launch.

Directions: Take I-95 to Sunrise Blvd. and head east. When you cross the first bridge after US1 splits off to the left, the Galleria mall will be on your right and George English Park on the left. Take the first left onto Bayview Dr. The first entrance goes to the cement boat ramps and metered parking. The second entrance is to the tennis center with free parking and access to a gravel beach put-in.

Put-in/Take-out: Either use the boat ramps or put in from the shore between mangroves. There is also a floating dock if you have a kayak cart.

Route: Head south toward the Las Olas neighborhood and paddle around. Yellow bridges can be paddled under. If you turn right (north) from George English Park it takes you to the Wilton Manors loop.

Wildlife: Motorboats, manatees

George English Park is marked with a pink star. The river in the lower left corner is the New River,
which heads to Riverwalk and the Broward Performing Arts Center
