South Shore Joeys Magazine Reviews

The Funny Paper

Some clowns who’ve been around for a while remember a magazine called “Laugh Makers” (an excellent magazine which is unfortunately no longer published). Well there’s good news, a recent newcomer “Funny Pages” has arrived on the scene to fill the gap left by “Laugh Makers”. Very similar in its coverage, the “Funny Pages” is targeted at all performers who use comedy in their routine, be they clown, magician, mime whatever. The folks at “Funny Pages” were nice enough to send a complimentary copy on CD of their Jan/Feb 2003 issue for me to review, (the CD will go in the Library at the next meeting).

This issue lists 22 regular columnists and 7 guest columnists. Among the regular columnists are Angel Occasio, Dave Bartlett, Paul Belanger, Bob Conrad, Linda Berman, Bruce Johnson, Susie Kleinwachter to name just a few. Guest columnists in this issue include Rosemarie Ballard, David Ginn, Steve Kissell to name just three.

This issue covers everything from balloons, magic, puppets, bubbles, storytelling, to an Easter character presentation. Many articles include references to other books, internet web sites for additional information, recipes for bubbles and a lot of other how-to information. The coverage is very broad I’m sure there is something here for everyone.

Visit their web site at www.funnypages.com and check out the sample in the South Shore Joeys’ library. It’s only $24/year for six bimonthly issues. As for me I’m sending in a subscription request to get mine coming.
