BELGIE |
Belgium was not even in our original plan. We were shipping Papillon from Jacksonville to Le Harve in France and proceeding from there. However, making a long story short, with ample notice Papillon's arrival was changed to the Port of Zeebrugge, just a few miles up the road from the city of Brugge. See the story of Shipping Papillon to learn all the aggravating details of getting here.
Zeebrugge, Belgium

Unexpectedly shunted here for the evening, we found everyone most helpful and friendly in this North Sea coast resort town. Save for the Zeedyck along the coast, it was a town of uninspired architecture. A post European something or another style that was fundamentally ugly. |
Brugge (pronounced Brew-geh) City Website
| We set out on our bicycles for the
3 kilometer journey from the campground into the heart of one of the best
preserved medieval cities in Europe. As the top tourist attraction
in Belgium, the city was jammed on a weather perfect Easter Sunday.
Often called the Venice of Belgium, it is extremely photogenic with architectural
gems competing with postcard perfect canal scenes vying for your
attention.
A photographers delight, we took a hundred and a half photographs. That evening Tom deleted them all. Sigh! |
