NEW MEMBER

Please add the following member to your roster:

                                                            Jimi Gray
                                                            814 Autumn Lane
                                                            Montgomery, AL 36117
                                                            356-7219

Jimi just acquired a boat a few years ago and wanted to get into bass fishing with a club. He’s fished some on the upper end of Martin, Jordan and the river. Most of the lakes we fish will be new water to him so everyone give him any advice and directions you can. He’s married with five children; his wife’s name is Angela. If he’s going to bring the whole family to fish he’ll need a pontoon boat! Everyone be sure to say hello to Jimi and welcome him to the club.

LAKE MARTIN TOURNAMENT RESULTS – FEBRUARY 21

1ST PLACE              DAN METZGER                   5 FISH                        10 Lbs. 11 Ozs.

2ND PLACE             BRYAN COLLAR                 5 FISH                        8 Lbs. 4 Ozs.

3RD PLACE             DOUG TESTERMAN          5 FISH                        7 Lbs. 13 Ozs.

BIG BASS                 DAN METZGER                                                       2 Lbs. 12 Ozs.

I heard it was pretty cold at this one too. Dan told me he got up and went back to bed. If I hadn’t given him the scales he wouldn’t have gone. So I guess he owes me at least half his winnings? It looks like there were some pretty good fish caught for a Martin tournament. They actually averaged more than a pound! I think Dan caught all his fish except one on a finesse worm. The other one bit a Rat-L-Trap. There were seven members that fished with 20 fish caught weighing 35 Lbs 2 Ozs.

LAKE MITCHELL TOURNAMENT RESULTS – MARCH 7

1ST PLACE              MIKE RAUCH                       5 FISH                        10 Lbs. 8 Ozs.

2ND PLACE             DOUG TESTERMAN          5 FISH                        10 Lbs. 4 Ozs.

3RD PLACE             BRYAN COLLAR                 5 FISH                        8 Lbs. 12 Ozs

BIG BASS                 DAN METZGER                                                       4 Lbs. 3 Ozs.

Congratulations to Mike for finding some good fish. He and Doug must have fished the same place they were so close in weight? We had a couple of fish over three pounds and a few more that were close. Dan just missed Bryan’s mark for this year’s big fish by a couple of ounces. We had a good turn out for this one and a lot of good fish caught. We almost doubled the total weight of our next best tournament this year. Maybe we’ll have a lot better spring than our fall was? I finally figured out it IS the back seat of my boat. I caught almost my whole limit in the back seat while Dan fished the front with no luck. Then Dan caught his big fish from the back later. Dan managed to finish fourth with just three fish while I was fifth with five. He’s just lucky we’ve been friends for a long time or I’d start renting out my back seat. Did I mention I even gave him a june bug worm when he wasn’t catching anything on his? We had 38 fish caught by 11 members that weighed 71 Lbs 4 Ozs.

JANUARY 2009

SPRING TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Attached is your copy of the Spring Tournament schedule. I apologize for not getting the December bulletin out. Between shoulder surgery the middle of November and my computer crashing it was a BAD month. Hopefully this spring we can get a break on the weather. It seemed like every Saturday this fall was just after a front had come through. This was the worst Fall since 05 when we only had 8 tournaments and we had one were only 2 people fished and one with only 3. We only beat that year by 4 pounds!

ALABAMA RIVER TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- NOVEMBER 1-2

1ST PLACE               BRYAN COLLAR                   5 FISH             5 Lbs. 12 Ozs.

2ND PLACE               DOUG TESTERMAN            5 FISH             5 Lbs. 0 Ozs.

3RD PLACE               MIKE RAUSCH                      3 FISH             4 Lbs. 14 Ozs.

BIG BASS                  NORM McKINNEY                                                    3 Lbs. 2 Oz

Another tournament another cold front two days before. It seems like the last couple of years this river tournament has been slow. It seemed like everyone caught fish on a different lure except a Rat-L-Trap which is usually the lure of choice. I know I wore the finish off mine casting it, maybe that’s why I only had one fish? Can you believe we only had two limits? The 27 fish that were caught by 10 members weighed 35 Lbs. 6 Ozs.

LAY LAKE TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- NOVEMBER 8-9

1ST PLACE               DOUG TESTERMAN            5 FISH             8 Lbs. 14 Ozs.

2ND PLACE               BRYAN COLLAR                   5 FISH             7 Lbs. 8 Ozs.

3RD PLACE               RALPH TAYLOR                    4 FISH             5 Lbs. 14 Ozs.

BIG BASS                  RALPH TAYLOR                                                        2 Lbs. 9 Oz

This tournament was so long ago that I couldn’t remember what happened if someone did tell me. For some reason not many folks wanted to/ could fish this one? Of the few that did Doug and Bryan were the only ones that were able to get a limit. Only five members fished and they caught 17 fish that weighed 25 Lbs. 15 Ozs.

LAKE MITCHELL TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- NOVEMBER 15-16

1ST PLACE               DOUG TESTERMAN            4 FISH             6 Lbs. 5 Ozs.

2ND PLACE               MIKE RAUSCH                      5 FISH             5 Lbs. 0 Ozs.

3RD PLACE               JARED KENNINGTON         2 FISH             4 Lbs. 13 Ozs.

BIG BASS                  JARED KENNINGTON                                             2 Lbs. 13 Oz

I didn’t hear much about this tournament but was really surprised to see the low weights. Not what I expected from Mitchell in November. We also didn’t have a very big turn out. I seem to remember that it may have been REAL windy?? Anyway, only 13 fish were caught by the five folks that fish and they only weighed 18 Lbs 2 Ozs. That may be the all time FBC lowest total weight.

LAKE JORDAN TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- DECEMBER 6-7

1ST PLACE               DOUG TESTERMAN            5 FISH             13 Lbs. 6 Ozs.

2ND PLACE               NORM McKINNEY                4 FISH             7 Lbs. 0 Ozs.

3RD PLACE               JARED KENNINGTON         4 FISH             5 Lbs. 1 Ozs.

BIG BASS                  NORM McKINNEY                                                    3 Lbs. 10 Ozs

I think the word to describe this tournament was BRRRRRRR. I heard reports that some folks had ice forming in their rods eyelets and on their reels? I sure was glad I had a bad shoulder and had to stay at home. Congratulations to Doug for breaking the 10 pound mark. I was starting to think our scales wouldn’t weigh right. I just can’t believe we’ve fished all fall and only had two weights over 10 pounds! Norm had a good tournament considering his boat wouldn’t start and he had to grab a ride with Dan. Lucky for him Dan was a little late getting in the water. The few reports I heard said the fish were scattered but they were decent size wise. There were 17 fish caught by the five members that fished for a total weight of 31 Lbs. 7 Ozs. I think we had a lot of folks that didn’t want to brave the cold?

LAKE MARTIN TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- DECEMBER 13-14

1ST PLACE               MIKE RAUSCH                      3 FISH             3 Lbs. 3 Ozs.

2ND PLACE               JARED KENNINGTON         4 FISH             4 Lbs. 1 Oz.

3RD PLACE               NORM McKINNEY                3 FISH             3 Lbs. 0 Ozs.

BIG BASS                  MIKE RAUSCH                                                          2 Lbs. 7 Oz

I understand this was another COLD one! Supposedly the ramp to the dock was an icy ski slope and you didn’t have to walk to the dock? Of course when you got there you might be sitting on your rear end. Congratulations to Mike for winning this one and getting big fish. We’ve been seeing his name a lot in the top finishers lately. I believe he was fishing in the back of Doug’s boat? Norm eeked out third over Doug by virtue of a bigger fish as they both had the same weight. I missed this one as well but maybe I’ll be ready by this spring and can give ya’ll a few more details as to what happened at the tournaments. We had 6 members fish with 12 fish caught that weighed 19 Lbs 13 Ozs.

I’ve enclosed a copy of the Fall schedule stats for everyone to look at. PLEASE check the math on your totals. I’ve had several problems with the spread sheet but I’ve tried to go back and calculate everyone’s totals by hand. It’s always a good idea for everyone to keep track of what they catch at each tournament. Sometimes the weights that are written on the tournament sheet aren’t entered into the stat spreadsheet correctly either. I’ve noticed that everyone seems to write the weights down a little differently so its impossible for me to guess correctly at whats written. We’ll need to get everyone together this spring to make sure weights are entered in a consistent format (pounds, ounces, tenths/ounce).

CLUB ROSTER

I’ve also enclosed an updated club roster since we’ve had a couple of new members. Hopefully I’ll need to send another one out before the end of the year. We’re always looking for new members if anyone has a friend that’s interested.

LAKE MITCHELL TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- OCTOBER 11-12

1ST PLACE              BRYAN COLLAR                 5 FISH                        10 Lbs. 4 Ozs.

2ND PLACE             DOUG TESTERMAN          5 FISH                        7 Lbs. 5 Ozs.

3RD PLACE             RALPH TAYLOR                 2 FISH                        5 Lbs. 9 Ozs.

BIG BASS                 BRYAN COLLAR                                                     3 Lbs. 11 Ozs.

I don’t know what to say about this tournament? It looks like Bryan and Doug were the only two that could find any fish. It’s really surprising to me that this few fish were caught. I guess I didn’t miss anything by going to Florida this weekend? I don’t know how many fish Bryan caught all day but the five he had were obviously good ones. We only had 16 fish caught by 7 members that weighed 28 Lbs 14 Ozs.

LAKE MARTIN TOURNAMENT RESULTS -- OCTOBER 18-19

1ST PLACE              BRYAN COLLAR                 5 FISH                        8 Lbs. 9 Ozs.

2ND PLACE             JARED KENNINGTON         5 FISH                        7 Lbs. 3 Ozs.

3RD PLACE             KELLY CRIPPEN                4 FISH                        6 Lbs. 14 Ozs.

BIG BASS                 BRYAN COLLAR                                                     4 Lbs. 5 Ozs.

It was a bit windy at the lake this weekend! We had some white caps on the lake but it wasn’t quite as bad as being in the ocean. Our fish were also a little heavier than the usual Lake Martin string of snakes. Bryan’s per fish average looks pretty good until you subtract out his big fish and figure out what the other four weigh. He caught his nice largemouth on a jerk bait after chasing it around a pier for a few minutes with a slider. It was an interesting fish story. Didn’t he just win big string and big fish last tournament? We need to come up with some kind of penalty for doing that. I also had a decent largemouth for Lake Martin that was caught just 30 minutes after getting in the water. I just kept letting my fifth fish go over and over. Congratulations to Jared for catching a nice string of spots with his spinner bait. We caught four more fish than we did at the Jordan tournament but the total weight was about 5 Lbs less. There were 28 fish caught by 8 members that weighed 37 Lbs. 7 Ozs.
