Frequently Asked Questions

(and Scholarship Application)

1.    What are the hours of the retreats? The retreats start at 6:00PM on Friday and conclude at 9:00PM. On Saturdays and Sundays the retreats begins at 8:30AM and conclude by 5:00PM

2.    Are meals provided? We have a wonderful caterer providing seasonal meals for each retreat. On Saturday and Sunday we have breakfast snacks, lunches, coffee, tea and other snacks. On the registration form you have the opportunity to request a vegetarian option. There are no dinners provided but there is a wide variety of fabulous restaurants within walking distance of the church and area hotels. We encourage participants to use the evening time for rest, relaxation, enjoying the scenery of Boulder and networking with new and old friends – shared meals are a good way to do this.

3.    Are there accommodations for lodging?  No. the retreat is hosted at a church and participants are responsible to secure their own housing. Wholehearted, Inc is happy to consult about options and locations. See the lodging page on this website. Also, if you are interested in sharing a hotel with another participant, please e-mail Susan and she will help coordinate this.

4.    What will Matthew Fox’s role be at the retreats?  Reverend Fox is co-facilitating the retreat with Dr. Evans.  The two of them will be present and involved every day throughout the retreat. Matthew Fox will introduce the path and mystic in Friday night’s lecture which will be open to the public.

5.    What is the structure of the retreat? The retreats will flow between didactic education, interactive teaching and experiential learning (learning new and specific practices).  There will be small group discussions, times for reflection individually and in groups.   FUMC of Boulder has a wonderful labyrinth and we will be using that as well.  Most of the retreat will occur indoors with opportunities for small groups to move outdoors for part of the experiential learning.

The Summer Day   excerpt:  Mary Oliver

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
