This small park is near Fallon. Nearly every sign and every map spelled
this place name differently.

Our Lahontan camp site
From Mark's "Book of Doom":
Day 1: Saturday May 16th near Silver Springs, NV.
Drove out to the middle of Nowwhere, NV. Set up camp in Lahotan park.
Found a nice campsite next to the lake. Temperature not too bad when
out of the wind. Got started a little late this morning due to oversleep
on my part (mental note: always set an alarm, no matter what time we need
to leave).
Ran into a little snow in the sierras, as well as an insane tail-gating
truck driver.
One "skull" for Steph for not bringing the Nevada campbook.
First, in my defense, I had AAA camp and tour books for every stated we
visited. I honestly thought that Nevada was included in the California
book as it once was. (BTW- at least as of 2003, Nevada is included in
the Northern California Camp Book. LESSON: When gathering AAA
--or other-- materials for a large trip, make sure that you collect
NEW versions of all materials and make sure there are no gaps due to
changes in format from one edition to the next!)
Second, it wasn't all that cold. These boys apparently had no idea what
cold was really gonna be like on this trip. They learned in a hurry after
this.
The place was very quiet and deserted. Well... except for in the
early morning when some giant gakity-gakity-gakity bird started
trying to break into the tin of cookies that had been left out (though
tightly covered) while making this heinously loud gakity-gakity-gakity
noise.
After recovering from our gakity-gakity-gakity bird-induced heart attacks,
we saddled up and headed out for Idaho and Craters of the Moon.
Overnight, Scott also discovered that his sleeping bag had been in
storage just a little too long. It started to disintegrate as soon as
he started to climb into it!
