1998 Northern Rockies Trip

EBR-1, ID and Jackson, WY
19 May 1998

EBR stands for "Experimental Breeder Reactor." Read on...
From Mark's "Book of Doom":
Day 4, Tuesday, May 19th
Up and on the road by 9:00, headed for Wyoming. The Snake River Valley is impressively flat, with occasional buttes and cones sprinkled around. Outside of Arco, we visited the EBR-1 historical site. Nobody was there, they're closed for the winter. Lots of radiation monitoring badges, and two decommissioned nuclear Jet Engines to look at.

Eastern Idaho is probably as good a place as any to build and test reactors -- very barren, and no towns nearby. Factoid: 50 reactors have been built and run by the Idaho National Engineering Lab in that area since 1949.

After arriving in Wyoming, we head for Jackson, where we've decided to rent a motel room and take a shower. After pizza and shopping downtown, we caught "Godzilla" at the local theatre. Tomorrow... Yellowstone!
