On April 10, 1984, the firefighters wives and other concerned citizens decided to begin a Ladies
Auxiliary for the fire department. It was started with the hopes of assisting the department with fundraisers and any other
financial support as needed. The Providence Ladies Auxiliary was instrumental in assisting the Stem folks with operational
ideas. The Stem Auxiliary began with 10 ladies. The ladies decided to have their regular meeting on Tuesday
night after the first Wednesday of the month. The fire department presented the auxiliary with a $200.00 check for start
up operations. The Ladies Auxiliary changed their name to Stem Volunteer Fire and EMS Auxiliary in the 90's so that
spouses could join in.
