Rylee's Grampa's Friends Noon to 4 p.m. at the Royale, 3132 South Kingshighway. Free; donations accepted. www.ryleesgrampa.com. Paul Stark, a longtime KDHX radio host and one-time club owner, is a big name on the St. Louis music scene. But he plays an even more important role at home: grandfather to 4-year-old Rylee. Stark and Rylee are throwing a party in the grassy backyard of the Royale restaurant and bar to benefit Camp Sunrise at YMCA Trout Lodge. Rylee describes the camp as "a place where kids who have cancer can do fun things outdoors with their families and with lots of other kids who aren't feeling good all the time." About two dozen of Stark's music-minded friends will sing songs and tell stories. Scheduled performers include rockers Fred Friction and Mark Stephens of the Highway Matrons, Craig Straubinger of the Tripdaddys, Brian Andrew Marek of Rocket Park and Jessica Butler of the Ralph Butler Band. Sing Along and Smile
BY ALISON SIELOFF
Aren't grandpas great? They're the kinds of people who will spin yarns about their childhood all day, read the comics to you and then let you have Neapolitan ice cream with bananas for dinner. They'll even pick you up from school after detention and not tell your mom about your tardiness problem — score! Grandpas are also the types of people who will organize an afternoon of songs and fun for families to help other families, and Rylee's grampa, Paul Stark, is just such a guy. To see this grandpa's good work in action, drop by the Royale (3132 South Kingshighway) from noon to 4 p.m. That's where and when Rylee's Grampa's Friends — such as Dave Simon, RFT contributor Roy Kasten, Sunyatta Marshall (pictured), Brian Andrew Marek, Fred Friction and more — get and play some songs and tell some stories to help raise money for the YMCA of the Ozarks Trout Lodge Camp Sunrise, a place were kids with cancer can go and have fun. Admission to this outdoor party is free (bring your own lawn chair or blanket), but donations to the camp would be much appreciated by lots of folks, including cute-as-can-be Rylee and her grampa.
