I Watch

I watch as he speaks to the group,
Counseling coolness in heat,
Standing as a symbol to calm.
I am proud of my friendship with him.

I watch as he walks away,
His golden mane flowing
And tendrils tickling his cheek.
I hurt with the wanting of him.

I watch as he stops by the child
Bending over to be closer,
To hear, to talk, to play.
I am humbled by the kindness in him..

I watch as he jokes with a friend,
Laughter trailing in his wake
And smiles following after.
I wallow in the joy of him.

I watch as he takes to the lyst field,
Stopping the fight to give advice,
Teaching in the wake of killing,
I smile at the chivalry in him.

I watch as he enters the tent,
Unbuckling his belt to place it aside,
Quietly joining me in the dark of night.
I am warm with the love of him.
