So What's Next?
And After That?
Cindy, who was one of the bridesmaids, has had some tough stuff going on in her life recently. No matter what it seems like, the intent of my wedding is not to cause additional stress on my friends. I value her friendship much more than I do her participation in the bridal party, so I offered to let her back out. She has taken me up on the offer, so I sadly amend my bridesmaid list to exclude her.
I'd been wanting to find a way to involve Liz Otis in this wedding thang and this provided the perfect opportunity. With Cindy backing out, I jumped at the chance to ask Liz if she would be a bridesmaid. She consented (why, I don't know!) What's more, she was able to join us on the Road Trip and she's got all her material Okay ~ not all. Unless we find one more perfect fabric, she's gonna show up in a stomacher and a tabard! We can't have that ~ no one is supposed to look better than the bride.
Due to unforeseen complications of divorced life, the budget has been slightly modified. Significantly modified. Drastically modified. Pretty much thrown out the window. The reception we had planned was a catered affair, with prime rib and filet mignon and champagne everywhere. Honest. No, really. Since it's out the window, you can't prove me wrong, so I get to say anything I want to! Including the fact that it's now a potluck peasant feast type of receptions. It's also a dry site, so no champagne, either.
It is the responsibility of the bridal party to ensure that the bride is at the wedding, with everything required at the correct time. My bridesmaids have been assigned certain duties to help them in this endeavor. Please make note of this so everyone will know exactly where to go for help when I start to panic!

... was a success. I felt sorry for the Fabric Outlet, though. 12 of us descended on the place, en masse and in rare form. No, I don't want to use polyester double knit red plaid for my wedding dress. No, Liz, you may not wear Kiss me, I'm Irish fabric unless it's bloomers. We were actually able to locate about 90% of the fabric needed in the one store. About all we're missing is the plum for the shirts and linings. We found all the green we wanted (boy, oh, boy) and the dark greys for the accents. I gotta tell you, we are going to be damned fine looking on The Day! I am extremely glad we made it to the Fabric Barn in Long Beach. That place was ribbon heaven. I give it 3 orgasms on the Strassburg ecstasy scale of 1 to 5 (I stopped the scale at 5 out of consideration for the neighbors). One side note on fabric. Of all the wedding party, both bridal and groomal, there was only one person who either did not make it on of the road trip, or didn't get in touch with me about their requirements. But we went ahead and designed his garb for him and got the fabric. I think Eric is going to look lovely in those tights, codpiece and short tunic, don't you? Lycra is so very flattering after all!
Pattern tracing! At the price of these historically correct sewing patterns, it doesn't make sense for all of us to spend our life savings. This Saturday afternoon (the 25th) from about 1:00 pm on, I propose we meet at Steve's apartment (because he's got a big, big flat table and lots of floor space). I have some big white paper (thanks, John), so we can trace each others' patterns. I have the Dashing Doublet. I am going to try to get in time the one that has cotehardies and sideless surcoats. Stephanie, Kathye and Liz have the Italian Renn dresses that are are willing to share. Does anyone have a basic chemise pattern? Or the poet's shirt? I would very much like to have those.
We help Di move (first weekend of February). Then we get ready for Estrella or the great Western War, whichever one is tugging at you. Then how about a sewing day? Perhaps the 22nd or 23rd of February? Kathye (the silly woman) has volunteered her place.
