In this view the aileron leading edge is the upper part and the wing trailing edge is the bottom part
All control surfaces on the Extra have round leading edges. The aileron leading edges were made from 1/2 round ash.
Since the aileron L/E remains directly behind the wing T/E, the aileron axis of rotation must be located at the geometric center of the aileron L/E.
The hinge point is recessed into the aileron L/E to put the pivot pin at the desired point of rotation.

The plastic hinge points are far too flexible to use in this manner without additional support, so the front (bottom) part of the hinge point is epoxied into in a 1/4" diameter stainless steel tube, which is in turn epoxied into the wing T/E.

The hinge point pin is at the end of the stainless steel tube, and is also at the desired pivot point for the aileron.
