Toby Needler is a Brooklyn artist educated, trained and exhibited throughout the metropolitan area. Her three dimensional work is an inventive layering of materilas, images and content. She juxtaposes found crochet pieces with colored pencil drawings of complex patterns that weave and braid layers of subtle colors predominantly accented with light catching gold and silver.

These art works reflect a unique approach to the medium of collage. The complicated layerings brings to mind Tibetan mandales, mosaic painting, Kilm rug design and traditional weavings. Although they reflect a feminist view point they are universal in their appeal. The compositions enchant and transport the viewer back in time and forward into spaces possible only from this artist's perspective.
