New Additions to our Flock:

We hatched out four Ameraucana chicks--3 splash and 1 black--not sure if they're roosters or hens, yet. They will lay blue or blue/green eggs.

We also bought some week-old chicks from a local feed store--breed and sex undetermined. We think they are probably Barred Rocks which will lay brown eggs. If we're right, we also think according to color and marking that we have two roosters and two pullets.

Lastly, we just hatched Black Copper Marans and Buff Orpington chicks. The Buff Orpington lay large brown eggs and will go into our regular laying flock. The Marans will be kept separately for laying and breeding purposes as they lay an especially dark brown egg (sometimes almost mahogany in color). We will eventually breed the Marans with the Ameraucana to produce chickens that lay Olive colored eggs.

Depending on the sex of the chicks--surely we'll have at least a few hens--we expect to start getting some blue or blue/green eggs and some dark brown eggs later this year, around August or September to be exact.
